About Us: Legio VII Gemina - COH I

Delve into the fascinating world of **Legio VII Gemina - COH I** in the **4th century AD**, a time of profound transformations for the Roman Empire. Our historical reenactment group is dedicated to reviving and studying the life, tactics, and culture of this formidable military unit in its final years.

Unlike Legio VII Gemina (better known from the 1st Century AD), we focus on the evolution of the late Roman legions. We research the attire, weaponry, and strategies they adopted in an ever-changing Empire, from the reforms of Diocletian and Constantine to the rise of Christianity.

Our goal is to offer an authentic and educational window into this crucial period, showcasing the discipline, daily life, and challenges faced by legionaries as the Empire sought to adapt and survive.

Our History: Legio VII in the 4th Century

Legio VII 4th Century

Legio VII Gemina, though not with the "Gemina" epithet in the 4th century (that honor belonged more to the earlier centuries of the Empire), existed and served in several important campaigns. Its role transformed from classic heavy infantry to more mobile units, often forming part of the imperial field armies (Comitatenses) or garrisoning borders (Limitanei).

In the 4th century, legions remained the core of the Roman army, but their structure and equipment had evolved significantly. Helmets, shields, and lighter armor were common, adapting to new threats and forms of combat. We strive to recreate this lesser-known but equally vital phase of Roman military history.
